Michael Smith
Manager/Licensed Funeral Director
Originally from Burr Oak, Michigan, and raised on a small farm just outside of Sturgis, Mike spent his first 40 years in the area. It was there that he met his wife of 25 years, Karla, and where they made their home in White Pigeon for 15 years.
Mike began his funeral service career in 2002 as a part-time associate with Farrand Funeral Home, working alongside his longtime family friend of more than 30 years, Dan Czajkowski. With the encouragement of family and friends, he began pursuing his goal of becoming a funeral director in 2010. After completing his studies at Glen Oaks Community College, Mike continued on to Worsham College of Mortuary Science, graduating with honors in 2011.
Following graduation, Mike expanded his skills and experience by working in Wisconsin for four years before returning to Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 2015 to be closer to family and their two beautiful granddaughters.
Outside of serving families in the community, Mike and Karla are avid snowmobilers and enjoy scuba diving around the world. Mike has been a PADI Divemaster for 25 years and takes great pleasure in helping others discover the wonders of the underwater world.
Now blessed once again to call St. Joseph County home, Mike and Karla look forward to reconnecting with friends throughout the community. Mike is committed to serving families with integrity, kindness, and dedication while continuing to uphold the values instilled in him by those he has met along the way.
