Rev. Vern M. Granger, Sr., age 79, of Constantine, passed away Monday, October 27th, 2008 at the Three Rivers Health Hospital. He was born in Grand Blanc, MI, on January 24, 1929, a son of Walter William and Bess (McDonald) Granger. After graduating from Byron High School in 1946, he married Mary Elizabeth Braley on April 8, 1948 in Fowlerville. Vern received his Bachelors Degree from Prairie Bible Institute in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Following this he earned his Masters in Divinity from the Midwestern Baptist Seminary in 1961, and continued his education working toward his doctorate. Following college, he served as Pastor at the Evangelical Free Church in Erskin, Alberta, Canada. Vern then taught at the Prairie Bible Institute. He continued pastoring at several missionary churches, including Bethany Missionary and Osolo Missionary Churches in Elkhart, and Bristol Missionary Church, retiring in 1999. Vern served as the Minister of Visitation at Trinity Missionary Church, Constantine. He was also North Central District Youth Director in care of Living Waters and Prairie Street Camps. Vern drove school bus for Elkhart Community Schools for 28 years. He was a member of the Miniature Harness Racing Association, and he enjoyed farming. Surviving Vern are his wife, Mary Granger, Constantine, children David (Diane K.) Granger, Leesburg, IN, Dr. Diane (Richard) Cook, Elkhart, Daniel (Jane) Granger, Fountain Hills, AZ, Jean (Tom) Lantz, Syracuse, IN, John (Deborah) Granger, Constantine, Linda (Jeff) Kercher, Goshen, Rev. Bud (Jeanette) Granger, Constantine, 26 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, sisters Joyce (Herb) Dyer, Pinckney, MI, Ruth (Tom) Slevin, Frankenmuth, MI, sister-in-law Evelyn Granger, Saginaw, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Michelle Granger, grandson Deven Granger, and brother Edward Granger. Relatives and friends will be received Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Trinity Missionary Church in Constantine where Religious Services will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Terry Neumayer officiating. Interment will be in Constantine Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Prairie Bible College.
