Velma Margaret Renner, age 91 of South Bend (formerly of Constantine), passed away Monday, September 13th, 2010 at The Regency Place in South Bend, IN. She was born in Jones, MI on May 6, 1919,  a daughter of Elmer and Louisa (Kilgore) Bates.  Velma graduated from Constantine High School in 1938.  On September 28, 1952 Velma married Eldo A. Renner in Elkhart. He preceded her in death on June 25, 1966.  She enjoyed being a homemaker. Velma also worked for 11 years operating the elevator at Ziesel Bros. Dept. Store in Elkhart, and at Upjohn Health Care and Medical Personnel Co., both in South Bend.  Velma also enjoyed reading and was a member of the writers club in Elkhart.Surviving Velma are her daughter Ruth (Robert) Hite, Ligonier, IN, son James A. (Freida) Renner, Long Island, NY, 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded by her parents, husband, brother, William Bates, and sister Donna Rumsey. Relatives and friends will be received Monday  from 11 am to 1 p.m.  at the Eley Funeral Home in Constantine, where Religious Services will follow at 1 p.m.. Pastor Marilyn Schlimgen, First Congregational United Church of Christ, will officiate. Interment will be in the Shavehead Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Southern Care Hospice.
