Norman L. Beachey, age 75 Constantine, MI passed away Monday, June 16th, 2008 at the Borgess Medical Center. He was born in Middlebury, IN on July 8, 1932, the son of Henry and Pauline (Davis) Beachey. Norm attended Three Rivers High School with the class of 1951, but left early to join the US Army during the Korean War. He served with the 4th Signal Battalion 10th Corps. from 1952 to 1954. On June 10, 2005 he was awarded his high school diploma from Three Rivers in recognition for his war time service. On August 13, 1955 he married Myra Foust in Three Rivers. Norm worked as a machinist at the E.L. Nickell Co. for 18 years retiring in 1994. He previously worked at Continental Can, Weyerhaeuser and Eddy Paper Co. Norm was a member of the Constantine Volunteer Fire Dept. for 24 years, the Constantine American Legion Post #223 for 43 years and the Three Rivers FOE # 2303 for 50 years reaching the level of Golden Eagle. He served as a trustee on the Constantine Village Council for 14 years and 6 years on the Village Zoning Board of Appeals. Norm was an avid outdoors man enjoying hunting and fishing. In 1994 he was named Constantine Citizen of the year. Norm was famous for his vegetable garden that he shared with family and friends. He enjoyed being Santa Claus for the young and young at heart, always getting a smile from disabled veterans and those in nursing homes. Norms hobbies included collecting baseball caps and traveling in the US and foreign countries. Surviving are his wife Myra Beachey, daughters Debra Burgess and Nancy Beachey all of Constantine, son Gary (Penny) Beachey of White Pigeon, sisters Marabelle Schweitzer, Sturgis, Rose Sweitzer, Constantine, Geraldine Johnson, White Pigeon, Lettie Wehrle, Mineral Point, WI, brother Douglas Beachey, Rockton, IL, grandchildren Amanda Landry, Rebecca Burgess, Tyler (Kim) Rice, Ron Rice, great grandchildren Candace, Preston, Audrey and Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents, son in law Ralph "Bud " Burgess and great grand daughter Sierra Landry. Relatives and friends will be received Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Eley Funeral Home in Constantine, where Religious Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 21st, with Reverend Alan Lickfeldt officiating. Interment will be in the Constantine Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Constantine United Methodist Church or Constantine Fire & Rescue.
