Merle L. Carter, age 78 of Constantine, passed away January 1, 2023 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born August 2, 1944 in Schoolcraft, a son of Chester and Marguerite (Hoyt) Carter. Merle attended Centreville Schools. On December 21, 1963 he married Marian L. Roberts in Centreville.

Merle had worked for Denton Mills, Fairview Nursing Home, and Birkhold Pattern Co. He later retired after working 20 years for Leland Engineering. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Surviving Merle are his wife Marian Carter, Constantine; daughters Annette Merritt, Sturgis, Ellie McCarthy, Union City; grandchildren Bridgette, Michelle, Donny, Jeremiah, Jeff, Nicole, Willis; several great grandchildren; sisters Jenny Hooker, Bonnie McLeod, Helen Shirk, half brother Richard Allen and half sister Marilou Young.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Chester Carter, Jr., Bernard Carter; sisters Pat Schragg, Judy Grant; half brother Donald Allen; and half sister Barb King.
