Max Burkey, age 78, of Mottville, passed away Wednesday January 21, 2009 at his home. He was born in Cass Co., MI on March 27, 1930, a son of Melvin and Violet (Robinson) Burkey. Max attended school in Edwardsburg. On March 25, 1950 he married Clara Akin in Bronson, MI. He worked for the Nibco Co. for 32 years. Max later worked at Stoutco Inc. in Bristol for 15 years. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting, shooting his first deer in 2007. Surviving Max are his wife Clara Burkey, Mottville, daughters Karla (James Jr.) Sweat, Constantine, Cheryl (Howard) Bradford, Mottville, son Eugene (Brenda) Burkey, Mottville, grandchildren Robert (Larry) Burkey, Tena Burkey Zimmerman, Joshua (Rachael) Sweat, James (Charla) Sweat III and Jerod (Kassandra) Bradford, 5 Gt. grandchildren, Natasha, Savannah, Sydney, Alexa, Trenton, 2 brothers Glen Burkey and Art Burkey and 2 sisters Edna Senteney and Joy Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 brothers and sisters. Relatives and friends will be received Saturday from 9 to 11 am at the Eley Funeral Home in Constantine where Religious Services will follow at 11 am . Pastor Jim Garnett of the Mason Twp. Baptist Church will officiate. Interment of Cremains will be in the Mottville Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
