Marvin Earl Smeal, 85 of Jones, passed away in Ann Arbor on January 24, 2021. Marvin was born in Clearfield, PA on June 28, 1935, a son of Collis and Mildred (Kanouff) Smeal. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1953 in Niagara Falls, NY. After high school, he attended Penn State University and went on to serve in the National Guard for 3 years.

On June 2, 1956, he married Lillian Elma Abbey in Niagara Falls. He was employed by the Hooker Chemical Company, working in Niagara Falls for 2 years, and then in the Montague, MI branch for 11 years. Next, he worked for RD Goss in Pennsylvania, an air conditioner and heating company for 3 years. After 22 years of service, he retired in 1992 from the Air Conditioning Union Local 336 as a service technician. He loved to go hunting and fishing. Marvin was a member of the Union Baptist Church, where he enjoyed teaching Sunday School for many years.

Surviving are his children Donald (Beth) Smeal of Vicksburg and Barbara (Blayne) Wolf of Jones; grandchildren Kendlyn (Frank) Marriott, Erin (Todd) Hogue, Marvin (Stephanie) Smeal, II, Brandon (Amy) Balentine, Markie Balentine, and Robbie (Sarah) Balentine; great grandchildren Nathan, MacKenzie, Bailey, Cory, Lilah, Jackson, and Kristen; brother Collis Duane (Mary) Smeal of Niagara Falls, and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Lillian.

According to Marvin's wishes, his body has been donated to the University of Michigan Anatomical Donation Program. A Celebration of Life for Marvin Earl Smeal will be held on May 8, 2021 at 1PM at an outdoor venue. The address for services is: 16922 Mount Zion St., Cassopolis, MI 49031, with a reception to follow. Memorial contributions can be given to the Union Baptist Church.
