Obituary

LeRoy Lee Preston, a man whose life was as rich and steady as the Michigan landscapes he so deeply loved, passed away peacefully in his hometown of Three Rivers, Michigan, on February 7, 2026. Born on Independence Day, July 4, 1943, LeRoy lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys found in nature and togetherness.

LeRoy’s professional life reflected his character—steadfast, driven, and principled. He dedicated 28 years to Vaupell Midwest Molding, where his tenacity, integrity, and vision carried him through the ranks to ultimately serve as CEO. In this role, he not only led with excellence but inspired loyalty and respect in those who worked alongside him. His commitment to his career was rivaled only by his devotion to the people he loved.

A family man through and through, LeRoy’s greatest legacy lives on in the family he cherished. He leaves behind his children Renee (Eric) Schreffler, Laura Preston, and Paul Preston; his stepchildren Kellie Scheibelhut-DeMeyer, Jill Scheibelhut, and Erin (Jason) Stears; and a large, loving circle of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the pride of his life. He was a guiding presence and beloved cornerstone to Casey (Carla) Schreffler, Courtney (Justin) Fitzgerald, Riley DeMeyer, Lucas (Vanessa) Perry, Shelby Mahnesmith, Zach (Hannah) Mahnesmith, Sydney (Toby) Danneffel, and Hailee Stears. His eight great-grandchildren will grow up hearing stories of a devoted patriarch whose love and wisdom shaped generations.

LeRoy was a cherished brother to Sue Echola and shared a special bond with his cousin, lifelong friend, and devoted caregiver, “Aunt Zandy” Welburn. His faithful canine companion, Holly, remained a constant source of comfort and companionship.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Peg, who passed on February 25, 2020, as well as his siblings Louise Lawson, Caralene Skelton, Harold, Gordon, Diane, and Kathy, and his parents, Harold Preston and Edith Nichols.

An avid outdoorsman, LeRoy found joy and peace in the great outdoors. He treasured yearly family trips to Minnesota and the Upper Peninsula, annual hunting seasons shared with his son, and countless fishing adventures with Paul and “the boys.” He made lifelong memories fishing for walleye on the Detroit River, camping across the country, and taking leisurely golf cart country cruises with his daughter Laura. The St. Joseph County Fair held a special place in his heart, where he spent many years camping and proudly driving the courtesy cart.

Among his fondest memories was an extended trip to Alaska with Peg—a journey that perfectly captured his adventurous spirit. His love of nature showed itself in the simple pleasures: cutting wood, working in the yard, building his dream home on the river, and hosting family gatherings filled with laughter, storytelling, and connection.

As we bid farewell to LeRoy Lee Preston, we celebrate a life beautifully lived—a life rooted in love, strengthened by family, and enriched by the simple pleasures that matter most. His legacy will continue in the hearts of all who knew him.

Funeral services for LeRoy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Eley Funeral Home – Constantine Chapel, 280 S. Washington St., Constantine, MI 49042.

Interment will take place at the Constantine Township Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and again on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, all at the funeral home.
