Katherine L. Leister, age 87, of Centreville and formerly of Constantine passed away Friday, September 5,2008 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. She was born in Constantine, on November 7,1920, the daughter of the late Roy and Florence (Raifsnider) Preston. Katherine graduated from Jackson High School in 1939. On July 18,1944 she married Charles L. Leister. He preceded her in death June 12, 1980. Katherine was employed in food service at Constantine High School for 10 years retiring in 1990. She also worked at the Dairy Mart, Town Fryer and Pioneer all in Constantine. Kate was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Constantine, former member of the Pythian Sisters and enjoyed playing Bingo. Surviving are her daughter Susan ( Ray ) Spencer of Constantine, sisters Joan Rider of Sturgis, Cora Mae Lambert of Constantine, Betty VanZandt of Clearwater, FL, and brother Mark Preston of Constantine. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Mary Large and Margaret Trowbrigde and brothers Roy Preston and James Preston. Relatives and friends will be received Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Eley Funeral Home in Constantine. Religious Services will be held at 11 am, Tuesday at Messiah Lutheran Church, with Reverend Dennis Smith officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or Heartland Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
