James Edward "Jim"
Timm
March 9, 1943 – June 11, 2026
James Edward “Jim” Timm, age 83, of Constantine, Michigan, passed away on June 11, 2026.
Jim was born on March 9, 1943, in Three Rivers, Michigan, and he carried the values of his hometown with him throughout his life. He was known as a man who appreciated the simple blessings of family, friendship, and the beauty of the world around him.
He found great enjoyment in gardening, where he took pride in nurturing life and watching things grow. Whether tending flowers, caring for plants, or spending time outdoors, he found peace and satisfaction in working with the earth. Gardening was more than a hobby to him.
James also loved to travel, especially when the journey involved cruises and sailing. He enjoyed the freedom of the open water and the opportunity to see new places, experience different surroundings, and make lasting memories along the way. These travels brought him joy and adventure, and he spoke of them with enthusiasm.
A significant part of Jim’s legacy is forever tied to the land that became Timm Preserve. In 2002, he graciously donated the land for Timm Preserve to the St. Joseph County Parks and Recreation Commission, with the condition that it be used solely for conservation and park purposes. That gift reflected not only his generosity, but also his vision and his belief in protecting natural spaces for the benefit of others. Through that decision, he helped ensure that the land would remain a place of beauty, reflection, and public enjoyment for years to come.
His generosity created an opportunity for countless others to experience the value of preserved open space, and his name will remain associated with that enduring legacy. The preserve serves as a fitting tribute to a man who appreciated the importance of conservation and who acted on that belief in a meaningful way.
He is survived by his brother, Jerry (Patricia) Timm; his nieces, Kelly Atkinson, Sara Timm, and Kathryn Witzke; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Taylor Rider, Henry Witzke, and Nora Witzke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Madelyn Timm; his brother, Gilbert Wayne Timm; his nephew, Michael Timm; and his niece, Virginia Timm.
Private services for Jim will be held at a later date.
