George L. "Sonny" Chorba, Jr., age 62 of Jones, passed away Saturday, October 3rd, 2009 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, following injuries sustained in a mowing accident. He was born in Niles on July 9, 1947, a son of George and Harriett (Everman) Chorba, Sr. Sonny graduated from Constantine High School. He worked as a truck driver at Postle Distributing Elkhart until he retired in 1996. Sonny loved stock car racing and raced at Mottville Speedway and at New Paris Speedway, where his record for winning 20 races in one year still stands since 1994. He also enjoyed restoring his 1979 Monte Carlo. Surviving are his mother Harriett Chaffee of Jones, wife of 19 years Pam Eymer, Jones, daughters Kristina (Neil) Ziska of Jones, Julianne Wise of Union, son Jimmy Wise of Union, step-son D.J.Eymer, granddaughter Mikki Wise, grandson Colton Ziska, sisters Cathy (Jorge) Sherak of Goshen, Teresa (Ken) Blazier of Elkhart, Judith (Patrick) Malone of Niles, Tammy (Tom) Smith of Jones, brothers Mike (Janet) Chaffee of Vandalia, Brady Chaffee,Jr. of Vandalia, LaRoy Dale (Teri) Chaffee of Jones. He was preceded in death by his father George Chorba, Sr., stepfather Brady Chaffee, Sr., and uncle Joe Chorba. Relatives and friends will be received Friday 10-1 p.m. at Eley Funeral Home where Religious Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Constantine Cemetery.
