Fred L. Harter, 69, of Jones, passed away at Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart on August 6, 2019 surrounded by his family. Fred was born in Sturgis, MI on June 11, 1950 a son of Lewis and Arlene (Gest) Harter. He graduated from Centreville High School in 1968 and went on to serve in the United States Air Force. On July 6, 2000 Fred married Charlotte Stone in Goshen. She preceded him in death November 6, 2015. He retired as a line leader at Sun Valley RV of Howe and Sturgis. He was also the former owner of Ann's Resale Shop in Constantine. Fred was a member of the Constantine American Legion and loved spending time with his many grandchildren and his dog, Boots.

Fred is survived by his daughters Lesa (David) Dowden of Cassopolis, Cynthia (Ron) Ohner of Lehigh Acres, FL, and Rhonda (Matthew) Cloud of Union; 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; sisters Judy Knight of White Pigeon; Ellen Quinn, Alabama, and half brother John (Barb) Harter of Sturgis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings Coral, June and Raymond.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, August 8 at 2:00 PM at Plum Grove Cemetery (69434 Union Rd., Union, MI 49130). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the Elkhart Humane Society.
