Foster Earl Spencer, age 77, of Constantine, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2008. He was born January 21, 1931 in Spencer, W. VA, a son of George and Lucille (Rowe) Spencer. Earl attended school in W. Virginia and later served in the US Army from 1954 to 1955. On August 18, 1957 he married Jose Ann Tressler in Elkhart. She preceded him in death on September 5, 2007. Earl worked in shipping and receiving at Simplex from 1971 until his retirement in 1995. He had previously worked at Weyerhauser. He enjoyed gardening and relaxing on his swing in the shade. He was an avid Tiger's fan and loved time spent with his family. Surviving Earl are his daughters, Theresa "Terri' Mellen (Joe Papke) of White Pigeon, Tam Spencer of Ft. Gratiot, MI, Cari (Brian) Keller of Springfield, MO, son Dan (Stacey) Spencer of Elkhart, IN, grandchildren Kristi (Josh) Mellen Carroll, Lawton, Matt Spencer, Elkhart, Mike Mellen, White Pigeon, great granddaughter Lauryn Carroll, Lawton, sister N ell Mayhorn, Columbus, OH, and brother Wayne Spencer, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son, grandchildren Jeffrey Spencer, Elizabeth & Aaron Mellen, son-in-law Jim Mellen, and sisters June Dietz and Lois Greer. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends will be received Monday from 1-2 pm, at the Eley Funeral Home in Constantine, where Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Dennis Smith, Messiah Lutheran Church will officiate. Private interment of ashes will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or to the family.
