Forrest D. Hassenger, age 85 of Constantine, passed away Sunday, August 17th, 2008 from injuries sustained in a farming accident. He was born in Constantine on September 13, 1922, the son of Vio D. and Grace R. (Young) Hassenger. Forrest graduated in 1940 from Constantine High School. He served in a Medical Battalion in the U.S. Army during WW II. On April 13, 1952 he married Marian Luegge at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Three Rivers. Following the war he worked at the Constantine Creamery. Forrest purchased his farm in 1948 and began his livestock transportation business in 1973, both which remain in operation. Surviving are his wife, Marian Hassenger, Constantine, sons, Steven D. (Doris) Hassenger, Buford, GA, Paul D. (Cindy) Hassenger, Sturgis, David D. (Katherine) Hassenger,Three Rivers, grandchildren, Karin Hassenger, Los Angeles, CA, Kurt Hassenger, Ellijay, GA, Cameron and Colin Hassenger, Lansing, Christina (Steven) Collins, Atlanta, GA, Amanda Hassenger, Lansing, Martin Hassenger, Three Rivers, brothers, R. Duane (Betty) Hassenger, White Pigeon, Robert (Lynna) Hassenger, Bellaire, MI, sister in law Edna Hassenger, Constantine, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Martin E. Hassenger, granddaughter, Samantha Hassenger, sister, Grace Pauline Lintz, and brother, Kenneth Hassenger. Relatives and friends will be received Tuesday, August 19, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Eley Funeral Home in Constantine. Religious Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Three Rivers, with Reverend Alan Stadelman officiating. Interment will be at Constantine Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Three Rivers Health Diabetes Education or Constantine Rescue.
