Obituary

Heaven received a precious package on Friday, October 2nd, 2009. Edith passed through Heaven??s Golden Gates, sent special delivery from her home while surrounded by her loving family, and was received by a large waiting crowd. She was born in Constantine on October 1, 1919, a daughter of William and Alice (Parris) Harshbarger. Edith attended Quaker Street School. On July 2, 1938 she married Howard Sprunger in Goshen, IN. They were married nearly 70 years until he preceded her in death on October 25, 2007. On the back of a picture of them, Dad had written, ??My lovely wife, Edith Sprunger, age 63 years young - 1982. There is no movie star that can compete with her.? Howard Sprunger ?? 1-14-83. Together they set an example in love and caring, centered around Christ. Edith worked at the Constantine Creamery from which she retired in 1981. She had also worked at M&R Co. (Ross Labs) in Sturgis, Denton Mills in Centreville, and Freeman Mfg. Edith was a member of Trinity Missionary Church, where she served as Pre-School Superintendent and Sunday School teacher. She touched many young souls in her classes, many who grew up to become close friends and refer to her as Grandma. She had also attended the Elkhart Missionary Church where she drove the Bible School Bus and taught Sunday School. Most recently she was attending Light & Life Wesleyan Church in Three Rivers. Edith loved shopping and looking for bargains, always thinking of others and what she could bring home for them. She always found something, no matter what. And free shipping was a priority. Edith enjoyed gardening and helping people in any way. Edith also loved flying with Howard and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was the most loving and caring person we have ever known and she cherished her family as much as they cherished her. She always put their needs ahead of her own. Surviving Edith are her daughter Marilene (Elmer) Skinner, son Dean (MaryJo) Sprunger, all of Constantine, sister Janet (Jerry) Wagner, Kenmore, WA, grandchildren Joe (Karey) Arnold, Renae (Gary) Wright, Sharon (Oscar) Holderman Jr. all of Constantine, Kim (Randy) Tupin, Amarillo, TX, great grandchildren Nicholas and Byron Holderman, Ryan Wright and Ashley (Aaron) Ward, Mallory, Melissa, Patrick, Trevor and Christopher Arnold, 2 great great granddaughters Heidi and Adelaide Holderman, step grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Howard Sprunger, daughter Phyllis Sprunger and half-sister Diana Harrell.
