Doris O. (Rustad) Gelvin, age 79 of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was born in Rolla, N. Dakota on May 10, 1934, a daughter of Raymond and Anna (Ouellette) Jones. Doris graduated from high school in Rolla. On July 12, 1982 she married William Gelvin in LaGrange, IN. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1983. Doris was a homemaker and enjoyed caring for her family and home. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed baking, reading, taking walks, and visiting with family and friends.



Surviving Doris are her children, Vicki (Benjamin) Ross, of White Pigeon, Allen Rustad, Valerie (Ron) Hawkins, Cindy (Thomas) Hicks, all of Sturgis, and their father Edward Rustad, sister, Janett (Richard) Arvidson, brother Glenn Jones, daughter-in-law Connie Rumsey, Bronson, son-in-law Michael Christner, Shipshewana, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Jimmy Rustad, daughter Mary Christner, sisters Dolores Fenzel, Stella Gardner and brother Sonny Jones



According to her wishes cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life Services will be held Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Firm Foundation Ministries in Centreville, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Don Smith officiating. A dinner will follow services. Private interment of ashes will take place at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sturgis at a later date.
