David Allen Kaper, age 79, of Constantine, Michigan, passed away on September 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after facing heart complications since March. He was born on March 16, 1947, in Three Rivers, Michigan, and lived a life defined by devotion to his family, quiet strength, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the simple things that brought him joy.

David proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His military service reflected the same qualities he carried throughout his life—duty, courage, loyalty, and commitment. He was a hardworking and dependable man who believed in doing things the right way and whose actions often spoke louder than words.

David had a lifelong love of gardening and took great pride in watching things grow. For more than 15 years, he owned and operated a greenhouse, dedicating countless hours to tending plants and sharing his passion for growing with others. The greenhouse became an important part of his life and was a reflection of his patience, dedication, and love of the outdoors. He found genuine satisfaction in nurturing something from the ground up and watching it flourish.

An avid outdoorsman, David appreciated the beauty and peacefulness of nature and enjoyed spending time outside whenever he could. He also loved sports and enjoyed both the excitement of the game and the traditions that came with being a fan. Whether working in his greenhouse, enjoying the outdoors, following his favorite sports, or simply spending time with the people he loved, David found meaning in the things that made life feel familiar and worthwhile.

Above all else, David was devoted to his family, and they were the greatest priority in his life. He showed his love through the time he gave, the support he offered, and the steady presence he had for those around him. He was a man his family could count on, and the lessons he taught through the way he lived will remain with them for generations to come.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ethel (Anglemyer) Kaper; his children, Karl (Colleen) Kaper; Keith (Angel) Kaper; and Rob (Keela) Kaper; his grandchildren, Kyle (Anet) Kaper and Isabel (Zack) Baran; his step-grandchildren, Abby (Zeke) Zamora; Christopher Currier; and Jordan Currier; and his nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Karen Spencer (Stan Myers), Deb (Ray) Hochstetler, and Kathy Giles (Martin Johansen), along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and his ever-faithful companion, Hayleigh.

David was preceded in death by his grandson, Jon Kaper, and his parents, John and Betty Kaper. The love he had for those who went before him never faded, and their memories remained a cherished part of his life.

David Allen Kaper will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his service to his country, his love of gardening and the outdoors, and the many lives he touched through his kindness, hard work, and quiet strength. His presence brought comfort, his example provided strength, and the love he gave so freely will continue to live on through his family. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him.

David’s family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm with funeral services being held at 2:00 pm at the Eley Funeral Home, 280 S. Washington St., Constantine, MI 49042.

Interment will be immediately following at the Constantine Township Cemetery.
