Obituary

Charles E. Lay, 76, of Constantine, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo from complications of a long-term health problem. He was born on September 12, 1941 in Jasper, AL, a son of Marlin and Gladys (Harris) Lay. On March 27, 1971, he married Rebecca Sweitzer in Elkhart.

Charles drove truck for 47 years for P&L Trucking in Middlebury, and Cimarron Trucking where he obtained the Million Mile Driver plaque. He enjoyed the outdoors and talking and telling stories with his friends.

Charles is survived by his wife Rebecca Lay of Constantine; children Kenneth (June) Lay and Heather Hooley; step-daughter Natalie Garret; grandchildren Cierra Lay, Ashley Hummel, Amber Hummel, Chelsea Wortinger, Kristina Wortinger, and Kelsey Lehman; great-grandchildren Ethan Evans, Kyra Wortinger, Bud Baker, and Natalie Baker; and siblings Tommy (Charlette) Lay, Louise Fisher, Patricia Wallace, and Gale Elsworth.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bobby Lay.
