Betty Lois (Swafford) Massey, age 77, of Sturgis, passed away Friday, July 24, 2015 at Rose Arbor Hospice, Kalamazoo. She was born in Harvey, IL on June 6, 1938, a daughter of John Elmer and Anna Leona (Koger) Swafford. Betty graduated from Thornton High School in Harvey, IL. In 1970, she married Wayne Theodore Massey in Illinois. Betty worked at Illinois Bell Telephone in the Public Relations department, and later in her life enjoyed volunteering at the Sturgis Hospital and at the Free Store in Centreville. She was also a mentor. Betty loved gardening, playing the piano, and most importantly, her family.

She is survived by her husband Wayne; daughters Kathy (Nick) Barnitz of Lawton and Julie Massey Gaydon of Three Rivers; sons Jeff Massey of Crown Point, IN and Kurt (Pam) Massey of Houston, TX; and brother Robert Swafford of New Lenox, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Cecil Swafford, Clyde Swafford, and John Swafford, and sister Mary Williams.

Friends and relatives will be received on Monday, July 27 from 6-8pm at the Eley Funeral Home, Centreville, where religious services will be held on Tuesday at 11am. Interment will follow at Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
