Bertha A. Stauffer, age 82 of Centreville, passed away April 3, 2014 at Birch Adult Foster Care in Leonidas. She was born on October 1, 1931, in Burr Oak, a daughter of William and Lydia (Miller) Bontrager . On September 21, 1950 Bertha married Henry J. Stauffer in Nottawa. He preceded her in death on September 20, 2013.

Bertha was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph County. She loved sewing and reading and reading God's word. Many years she worked outside the home.

Surviving are her children Orla (Rhonda) Stauffer, Schoolcraft, Lena Gregory, Carry, NC, Ruth (Wayne) Garratt, Sydney, Australia, Thomas (Debra) Stauffer, Sturgis, William (Jodie) Stauffer of Marcellus, son-in-law Roger Jones, Kalamazoo, 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, sister Marie (Ezra) Bontrager, Centreville, brothers Leroy (Marjorie) Bontrager ,Hicksville, OH, Alva (Anna) Bontrager, LaGrange, IN, Samuel (Bessie) Bontrager, Napannee, IN, brothers in law Ezra Gingerich and Levi Hostetler and many neices and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry Stauffer, daughter Phyllis Jones, sisters Pauline Gingerich and Alta Hostetler and sister in law Katie Ann Bontrager.

Relatives and friends will be received Sunday from 4-7 pm at the Eley Funeral Home in Centreville, where Religious Services will be held Monday at 11:00 A.M. Interment will take place at Calhoun Cemetery in Florence Twp. Memorial contributions may be made to Birch Adult Foster Care.
