Ardith Smoll, age 95 of Sturgis passed away Friday, January 17th, 2014 at Thurston Woods Village. She was born in Sturgis, on November 9, 1918, a daughter of William and Grace (Rost) Young. Ardith graduated from Sturgis High School in 1936. On September 5, 1937 she married Estel R. Smoll in Sturgis. He preceded her in death July 27, 1976. She was a homemaker until her children were raised. She then worked as a cashier and clerk at Beal's dime store for 11 years and at the St. Joseph Co. Grange Fair for 18 years. Ardith was a member of the Centreville Women's Club, various card clubs and the Ladies Aid group at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Ardith also enjoyed baking and was known as the pie lady.

Surviving are her daughters Louise Green, Parchment, Marilyn (Sherman) Dunafin, Sturgis, Marcia Moore, Columbus,OH, Wendy (Edward) Guess, Centreville, 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and one due to arrive in Febuary, and 7 great great grandchildren, sister Arlene (Gerald) Peeke, Sturgis and brother Walter Young, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Harold Young.

According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m on Friday January 24, 2014 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Centreville, MI. with Pastor David Grimm officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie River Cemetery in Centreville at a later date.
